Port of San Diego Celebrate the Arts at the New Aquatic Center
The Port of San Diego invites the public, including National City residents, to celebrate the arts, including the newly-installed Sea Dragon sculpture, at a free special event on Saturday, February 25, 2017.
The community celebration will take place in Pepper Park at the Port of San Diego’s newest public facility, the National City Aquatic Center, 3300 Goesno Place, National City, CA 91950 (located in Pepper Park at the foot of Tidelands Avenue.)
The family-friendly festivities, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature live dance and musical performances, free food and refreshments, giveaways, activities for kids, and views of the San Diego Bay.
“Events like this are exactly what National City residents like me want to see more of on the waterfront. The Aquatic Center not only gives our community more access to San Diego Bay for recreation and educational purposes, it also provides a picture-perfect setting for arts and culture events like this one,” said Robert “Dukie” Valderrama, Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners.
Sea Dragon was originally created by artist Deana Mando for the Port’s “Urban Trees 3” exhibition in 2006 and later purchased by the Port for its Tidelands Collection. Restored to like-new condition, the 17-foot-tall Sea Dragon will now engage visitors at the National City Aquatic Center from its location near the facility’s boat ramp and the National City Marina.
