Border Partners Forum for Action on Chronic Diseases
The Pan American Health Organization, US Mexico Border Office (PAHO/WHO), together with the National City Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is pleased to invite you to participate in theBorder Partners Forum for Action on Chronic DiseasesJune 2010Martin Luther King Community Center140 east 12th Street, National City, 91950Due to the high prevalence of obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases in the U.S./Mexico border region, there is an urgent need to encourage business leaders, policy and decision makers as well as the community as a whole to adopt measures to prevent chronic diseases and their risk factors; PAHO/WHO, through its U.S.-Mexico Border Office, is convening stakeholders from multiple sectors to form a partnership in order to assess the local situation, build awareness and consensus, strengthen actions and affect public policy.
The partnership model is used by PAHO to convene people and institutions with the resources, leverage and insight to collectively solve systemic problems at scale; to enable those people and institutions to think and act together; to unleash the leadership and commitment needed for sustained effort by connecting people to reach high goals. We hope to translate ideas into actions on the ground by testing innovations and institutionalizing what works; and by building collaboration among key leaders and institutions to increase the likelihood of success in the implementation of innovative ideas.
We hope you will be able to join us in this important event for the California/Baja California community which ultimately will result in improving the quality of life of the entire border region.
We look forward to hearing from you. RSVP by 5/23/10 to Natalia García at (915) 845-5950, ext 2532 or garciana@fep.paho.org.
