• RECREATION LEADER I, II, III (Temporary/Part-time)

    THE POSITIONS:

    Recreation Leader I: $16.65 - $20.26 Hourly

    Under general supervision, this position leads participants in a wide variety of City-sponsored activities and provides general assistance and support to the daily operations of an assigned recreational area.

     

    Recreation Leader II: $16.79 - $20.43 Hourly

    Under direction, to perform a wide variety of tasks and assist with the daily operation of the City's community and recreation centers as well as City-sponsored activities and events.

     

    Recreation Leader III: $16.93 - $20.60 Hourly

    Under direction, to organize, coordinate, and conduct the activities of an assigned major function or phase of the recreation program; act in a liaison capacity between recreation staff and the public, and perform related duties as required.


    NOTE(S):
    • These are part-time, non-benefited positions; weekly hours range from 10-19 hours. 

    • The City is looking for individuals available to work Monday through Friday mornings, afternoons, evenings, and nights; this may include weekends and/or holidays.

    • This Recruitment is for Spring 2024, but there is a possibility to extend the position depending on department needs.

     


    Key Responsibilities

     

    Recreation Leader I:

    • Organize and manage games, crafts, special events and other activities and classes at recreational facilities.
    • Provide leadership in athletic activities and teach fundamentals of play and sportsmanship.
    • Issue and maintain equipment and supplies.
    • Ensure and maintain discipline and safety of participants in recreation areas.
    • Register and inform participants of classes, programs and/or activities.
    • Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of recreation participants and spectators.
    • Render first aid in cases of minor injury.
    • Assist in operations and maintenance of recreation facilities such as cleaning, maintain records, complete forms, and prepare reports.
    • Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, City employees and the public by providing good customer service.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Recreation Leader II:

    • Assist in planning, organizing and conducting groups or classes in music, dance, arts and crafts, team and individual sports, and various other social and recreational programs.
    • Provide information to the public.
    • Enforce regulations, direct and maintain discipline in indoor and outdoor play areas.
    • Distribute and maintain equipment
    • Conduct, plan and provide support to City-wide special events.
    • Open and close recreation centers and related facilities; including program and facility set-up/tear-down and basic maintenance projects.
    • Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of recreation participants, spectators, and facilities.
    • Render first aid in cases of minor injury.
    • Chaperone and register participants in a variety of activities.
    • Prepare reports, maintain records, and assist in reception and general administrative duties.
    • Perform other related duties as required.

     

    Recreation Leader III:

    • Organize, coordinate, and conduct classes and activities in a specialized capacity of the recreation program
    • Assist in planning, organizing, and developing daily, weekly, and monthly activity schedules with other staff (i.e., announcements, homework, character development, life skills, sports, arts, games and special events)
    • Prepare, promote and participate in programs and activities to the public
    • Maintain necessary records of activities and equipment, including but not limited to collecting and accounting for program registration; completing and preparing forms, reports records, and statistical information; tracking the issuance of specialized equipment and materials
    • Develop interest and participation that fits the abilities of all participants
    • May train, assign work and oversee other part-time staff in recreation activities
    • Advise patrons of regulations governing the use of recreational facilities and investigate special recreation problems as needed; monitor and ensure the safety of participants and staff
    • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public
    • Perform other duties as required
